KUALA LUMPUR (7 Feb 2011) – Contrary to earlier reports, Malaysian national striker Safee Sali has announced that he has signed for Indonesian Super League side Pelita Jaya instead.
Earlier, the 27-year-old frontman had given the impression that he will be heading to Persib Bandung but following the official press conference with his current club Selangor this afternoon, Safee said that he will be playing for the West Java club on a year’s contract.
He will sign the official contract with Pelita Jaya on Valentine’s Day – 14 February – and will be using the No. 10 shirt.
"As I’ve said before, I’m looking for a new experience and I believe that signing for Pelita is the right move for me at this stage of my career," said Safee.
Selangor have agreed to release Safee from his contract which ends this November for an undisclosed fee with the latter’s last match for Selangor against Kuala Lumpur this Saturday.
In the meantime, Rahim Soekasah the Technical Director for Pelita Jaya said that the team is delighted to have been able to prise Safee from Selangor.
"In general, Pelita have a very young squad where we have only two players who are aged 25-years-old. But what we need is a striker, someone who can finish the chances that we have created," added Rahim.
"We have agreed not to announce just how much we have paid for Safee. Too cheap and Safee will not come to Pelita while too much, then Safee will be seen as a mercenary."

Maka Ketika Ia Berhadapan Dengan Allah, Allah Memaafkannya."
